Nashville PBS (WNPT) reaches nearly 2.4 million viewers across Middle Tennessee through documentaries, weekly series, educational programming, and a growing digital ecosystem. Senior Director of Brand, Digital & Marketing Shane Burkeen and Senior Video Editor & Edit Team Leader Jessica Best help lead the station’s creative and editorial output – supporting everything from long-form broadcasts to YouTube originals and short-form digital content.
With a small team responsible for a constant flow of stories across multiple platforms, Nashville PBS needed a scalable solution to increase production speed, expand creative capacity, and maintain PBS-level quality without overextending resources. Since adopting Storyblocks in 2022, the station has transformed its workflow, enabling editors and producers to create more, faster, and with greater flexibility.
As both Burkeen and Best note: “The time we save by using Storyblocks for supplemental B-roll more than recoups the subscription cost. Instead of spending hours searching for or shooting generic footage, our team can focus those resources on capturing truly local content that connects with our Middle Tennessee audience. This efficiency is critical for us as a nonprofit station operating with limited resources.”
“I can’t imagine working this long at Nashville PBS without Storyblocks. It’s our daily go-to.”

Senior Editor & Edit Team Leader
Scaling creative output in a digital-first environment
Nashville PBS has evolved from broadcast-first to digital-first, requiring new storytelling approaches, tighter pacing, and content tailored to platforms like YouTube, Reels, and TikTok. Best explained the intensity of their production pipeline: “We create constantly… documentaries, weekly shows, short series, digital content.”
Storyblocks enables editors to move quickly by providing aerials, transitional visuals, lifestyle footage, and thematic sequences that would otherwise require costly or logistically challenging shoots. Best shared an example of constructing an entire airport sequence entirely from Storyblocks clips – an illustration of how the library helps editors build narrative moments from scratch.
With Storyblocks, Nashville PBS can craft platform-ready content that captures viewer attention while maintaining the polished aesthetic expected from PBS.

Empowering editors to create more with less
Public media organizations often operate under strict budgets, grant requirements, and limited production bandwidth. Storyblocks allows Nashville PBS to maximize every resource it has.
Additionally, Storyblocks’ broad coverage for the entire organization and its employees enables Nashville PBS to seamlessly onboard freelancers and external producers, maintaining accountability, visibility, and collaboration without the legal risks of users sourcing assets from different sites.
“It saves so much time. Our editors aren’t waiting anymore, and our shooters can focus on the weekly series that gets the most views.”
Shane Burkeen
Sr. Director of Brand, Digital & Marketing
Strengthening mission-driven storytelling through flexibility and representation
Nashville PBS’s mission is rooted in authentic, community-centered storytelling. Storyblocks supports this mission by offering footage that aligns with both editorial needs and the station’s commitment to inclusive representation. Burkeen described the unexpected value of the library’s relevance to their geography and brand refresh: “I rebranded us to Nashville PBS without sending anyone out to shoot new footage – Storyblocks already had so much.”
Re:Stock also resonates strongly with PBS’s dedication to telling stories reflective of the communities it serves. With Storyblocks, Nashville PBS can produce content that feels grounded, representative, and mission-aligned – even when resources are limited or deadlines are tight.
The flexibility to repackage long-form documentaries into digital-first pieces further allows the station to reach younger and broader audiences, expanding the impact of their storytelling.

Looking ahead to the future of Nashville PBS
As public media faces growing production demands, shifting audience behaviors, and funding uncertainties, Nashville PBS continues to innovate – and Storyblocks plays a meaningful role in enabling that evolution. By providing fast access to high-quality footage, music, SFX, and templates, Storyblocks empowers the station’s creative team to produce more content with greater impact across every platform. As Burkeen concludes: “The Storyblocks catalog has truly helped us. Storyblocks has become essential to how we create.”
